Thoughts About Childrens Play Kitchens
I have a 5 year old boy and a 3 year old little girl and it is always interesting to see the dynamics of gender generalizing.
It's funny because it is perfectly fine that my daughter likes to wear SpongeBob pajamas, her favorite movie is the Sandlot, and loves red not
pink but turn the tables and should my son want to wear Barbie pajamas most people would raise an eyebrow.
Gender stereotypes really only seem to go one way.
So as a society I think it is important to allow our children to explore while not limiting their creativity to a toy that is either deemed
"just for girls" or "just for boys".
Take childrens play kitchens for instance. Role playing type toys, such as a toy kitchen, are excellent ways to help foster creativity and
expand the imagination.
In fact, many famous chefs are men such as Emeril, Bobby Flay, and of course the controversial Chef Gordon Ramsey.
So is it socially unacceptable by most people's standards to purchase a toy kitchen for your little boy?
While some people may disagree with me, I find the idea of childrens play kitchens a wonderful balance to a little boy's repertoire.
Pretend play kitchens create so many different outlets for small developing minds, and all kids love to feel they are accomplishing a goal.
Kids love to emulate their parents, and in today's kitchen (at least in mine) both parents are often apart of cooking process.
Today there are many play kitchens that are perfect for a little boy. Two of my favorites are made by KidKraft.
The Let's Cook Toy Kitchen and the Primary Island Toy Kitchen are wonderful gender friendly play kitchens. Both are adorned in bold primary
colors (instead of your typical pastel colors) making these play kitchens a perfect fit your aspiring chef.
If your young son shows an interest in make believe play and especially with cooking than play kitchens offers a great enhancement. My
daughter has a toy kitchen, and although it is in her room, both my son and her play with it often.
