Infrared Grilling - Great Cooking
With Style
by Sally Underwooda
If you look in many backyards across the country, you will
typically find a grill.
These range from charcoal to gas grills and from small to huge.
There is a grill that is coming to the front of the pack, so to
speak. Many homes will soon have infrared grills to replace their
traditional grill.
They are
increasing in popularity, although they have been around since the
early eighties.
You may wonder what makes this grill different from others.
These grills use infrared technology to cook the food. One
misconception is that these grills will not use a flame.
You will still need either propane or some sort of natural gas
to start the heating process. After lighting the gas, it will then
heat up a ceramic tile that is placed in the bottom of the
grill.
A traditional grill cooks using either convection or conduction
heat methods. With this type of cooking, you can run into the
problem of your food not cooking evenly.
Infrared grills cook using heat by radiation. This does not mean
a laser is cooking it as some might think.
Heating up the ceramic tile will take some time. This is not
instant. Be aware that this grill will get hotter faster than a
traditional grill can. With radiant heat cooking, your food will
cook evenly.
While many use charcoal or gas grills, they run into the meat
not being done the same throughout the meat. Cooking with an
infrared grill will cut the cooking time in half of a traditional
grills time.
When the microwave first came out, many
people did not trust it to be a safe way to cook their food. This
is also a question with this type of grill.
Though there has been much speculation over this, no one has
discovered the true side effects of cooking this way. It really
will be your personal opinion on whether this grill is a safe
choice for your family.
Another benefit to cooking with this type of grill is you can
use it in any weather conditions. Normally rain, wind, or cold
temperatures can adversely affect your cooking process. This is not
an issue with the infrared grill. Cooking with charcoal or gas
grills can have flareups.
When something falls into the infrared grill it is vaporized,
thus cutting down on the flareup problem. You can monitor this
grill from a further distance than other grills. Reducing the
flareups also means this is safer for anyone who may be around your
grill at the time of cooking.
Using grills are a favorite summer activity for most families.
With the infrared grill, this can be a year round experience. This
cooks much hotter and much faster than a typical grill will. Be
sure to do your research before purchasing one of these grills.
There are a few different brands so you need to find the right one
for you and your family.
